Hugo Weaving in talks to play Red Skull in Captain America.

It looks like Hugo Weaving (The Matrix Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, V for Vendetta) is in talks to play Red Skull in the upcoming Captain America movie. Weaving has always been a fine choice to play a bad guy, so I think this was a good decision on the part of Marvel and Joe Johnston, who will be directing the Captain America movie.

Now we just need to wait and see who they cast as Captain America himself. There has been talk of several actors trying for the role, including John Krasinski from “The Office”. Though I believe his chances of getting the role have been squashed.

In the Marvel comics, Red Skull has been Captain America’s archenemy since 1941, when he engaged in espionage and sabotage as Hitler’s right-hand man. In his final battle with the superhero, he was buried under the rubble of a bombed building but — as would occur later with Captain America — fell into a state of suspended animation. Both were revived in modern times.
