Paramount and Bad Robot extend their arrangement

Paramount Pictures announced today that they will extend their agreement with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions to run through 2013. This continues the first-look relationship with Abrams and his long time colleague, producer Bryan Burk, which began in July 2006.

“Today’s announcement is meaningful to me in many ways,” said Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO, Paramount Pictures Corporation. “Bad Robot was one of the first deals we made to help rebuild the studio. J.J. has since become part of the fabric of Paramount and we look forward to continuing our fruitful creative collaboration for many years to come.”

Abrams also had something to say, “Bad Robot has had an incredibly fun and productive collaboration with Paramount.” He then added, “We are all so grateful for their amazing support and creative team, and feel like we’re just getting started. We are thrilled that we get to stay right where we are.”

This really comes as no surprise. It seems everything J.J. Abrams does turns to gold. Bad Robot first collaborated with Paramount with “cloverfield”, which went on to become the highest grossing January opening weekend of all time. The also have “Star Trek” lined up for this summer, which will make a few truckloads of money. Next up after Star Trek for Paramount and Bad Robot will be “Morning Glory” which goes into production in June.

So there you have it, Paramount likes money.
