Official: Soundwave will be in Transformers 2.
Soundwave will be appearing in Transformers 2. When Michael Bay was developing Transformers, there were rumors that Soundwave would make an appearance. Obviously that never happened, and they tried to hold everyone over by including Frenzy in the original film. Now, screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have confirmed that Soundwave is included in the script for Transformers 2.
“We had to get Soundwave in there,” Orci told IGN. “You know, we had Ravage in an early draft of the first movie and Soundwave, and we couldn’t do it right and I think this time hopefully we’ll have the ability to do it.”
Soundwave is one of the most recognized original Transformers characters if you recall. Soundwave was the Decepticon which could transform into a microcassette recorder. As the Decepticon Communications Officer, he can detect and jam radio transmissions all across the energy spectrum and has the ability to monitor electrical impulses within brain circuitry (i.e. read minds). Orci also promises that the sequel will be more appealing to hardcore fans.
“Some of the die hard fans. . . felt. . . Maybe it wasn’t science fictiony enough. And I think the second one will deliver on a true Transformers story. You know, the first one, we had a limited budget for what it was. Every second of Transformer time is a million dollars or whatever the heck it is, so this time, because we were able to prove through the whole thing that it’s a viable live-action movie, we have a little more freedom this time to actually learn about the Transformers, see them, hear them. It’s a better balance between the humans and the Transformers.”
According to the cartoons, Starscream led the Decepticons for a short period of time while Soundwave worked to bring Megatron back as leader. You may recall Megatron being dropped into the ocean at the end of the first film, and this news of Soundwave would certainly fit into the movie in trying to bring Megatron back. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
